When I was growing up I never had an inkling that I would have my own business AND make a great living!
I suppose I was like a lot of you–Tupperware, Amway, Mary Kay… I signed up to sell them all and I never sold anything! I was too shy, didn’t want to impose on my friends to have parties. Lots of excuses. So I never made any money and just bought more crap I didn’t need to make sales quotas.
So in 2001 when I was laid off from my corporate job, I had no idea what to do. I discovered virtual assistance and enrolled in a training program called Assistu. It was amazing and taught me how to build my VA business. But I was so afraid that I wouldn’t be able to sell my services and make any money. Well jump forward 16 years and I have an amazing business, supporting other VAs as well as myself, and making money. The bonus is helping other entrepreneurs realize the business of their dreams by having an Online Business Manager on their side.
One of the things I was worried about when I was taking my OBM training was the leadership component. I didn’t consider myself a leader. But that was because I was never put in that role. During the OBM training I learned all about leadership: how to lead the business, lead the client and lead the team. And most important of all: how to lead myself.
I may not have been born a leader, but I have certainly become a leader. The best part is I love being a leader, making a contribution to the VA world and creating new OBMs all over the world.
So my question is: do you think you can be a leader? I bet you can! You just need to stretch yourself and learn the skills of great leaders.
